The linear motion of a flexible steel cable, which can have a length of up to 30 m, is converted into a rotary motion using a measuring drum. The measuring drum is connected to an encoder. In this way, a change in the displacement of the measuring cable causes the axis of the encoder to rotate by a directly proportional amount which can be
registered. The restoring force of the spring drive keeps the measuring cable tight at all times and prevents
any tipping that would otherwise cause errors. The measuring drum moves axially on a spindle and
ensures that the cable is accurately and reproducibly wound for winding in the groove of the roller. The nozzle, through which the cable enters the drum, is protected by a brush and bellows to prevent water or dust from entering the drum. An additional grease chamber can be fitted on request.
